Child Abuse PreventionCMS understands that being a parent or caregiver can sometimes be overwhelming. Our Child Abuse Prevention staff work to build safe, stable and nurturing families by helping them learn to deal with some of the everyday stress that could lead to an abusive situation. Child abuse or maltreatment isn’t always just physical – it can include mental or emotional abuse or neglect. As a parent, remember that taking a deep breath and counting to ten can be a quick fix to feeling better. For more information like this, see the Child and Family Information section which includes tips on Positive Parenting, Controlling your Anger, Praising your Child, and other great topics on how to be a healthier family. If you feel like you are at risk of abusing your child or just need someone to talk to, call 1-800 FLA LOVE (352-5683) the Parent HelpLine for more help. CMS Child Abuse Prevention also engages in other activities to protect children and build supportive happy homes, families, and communities. These include developing and distributing prevention-related materials to other CMS and Department of Health programs, participating in health fairs and other showcases, conducting workshops and presentations, and participation on intra- and inter-departmental collaborative activities. For more information on how to access our materials or to request a workshop or presentation, please contact Janet Evans at 850-245-4246 or send us an email. |
