Liver Transplant Program
Most children are born with a normal, healthy liver. In some cases, though, a child may need a liver transplant due to liver failure or when liver failure will occur soon. Having a child or baby with liver disease can be very upsetting to parents. It is important to know that Children's Medical Services (CMS) is here to help you find and provide resources to help your child or baby. It may also be helpful to understand that liver transplantation in children is often very successful.
The CMS Liver Transplant Program is designed to help support pediatric liver transplantation for children within Florida. The Pediatric Transplant teams at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Florida/Shands Children's Hospital are available to help your child. Our goal is to improve clinical outcomes for children with liver transplants and to decrease overall expense. The program focuses on coordination of your child's healthcare and helps you to understand your child's health and treatment. CMS is here to help with whatever treatment option is best for your child.
More than 300 children residing in over 50 counties in Florida receive follow-up transplant care as part of this program.
