Module 1: Lesson 2: Annual Meeting to Evaluate the IFSP

Annual Meeting to Evaluate the IFSP

At this stage in the process, the IFSP meeting participants meet and update the current developmental status of the child and review progress toward outcome attainment as required in the IDEA, Part C Regulations, 34 CFR, Section 303.342, to annually evaluate the IFSP. A formal multidisciplinary evaluation of the child may not be required if current evaluations in the developmental areas and other information exists. The participants at the IFSP meeting must determine the information needed. The IFSP meeting participants may review current assessments/status reports, or conduct assessment as needed on the child's development and determines new outcomes and learning strategies, as appropriate. At this time, the IFSP meeting participants develop a new IFSP.

The same individuals, to the extent possible, that developed the initial IFSP, conduct the following activities to annually evaluate the IFSP and to meet Early Steps requirements:

  • update the current developmental status of the child and review progress toward outcome
  • obtain the perspective of the family on progress towards outcomes and identification of new concerns/outcomes
  • review updated child assessments and developmental status reports to assist in determining new learning strategies
  • develop a new IFSP
