Florida law does not allow anyone to attend school without having the required immunizations!
The following vaccinations must be completed before attending kindergarten:
The completed series of DTP/DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and acellular Pertussis).
The 2-dose MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella).
The completed series of Polio Vaccine.
The 2-dose Varicella (Chickenpox).
The 3-dose Hepatitis B series.
For 7th Graders
An up-to-date Tetanus vaccine is mandatory. Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine is required instead of the older Tetanus and diphtheria (Td) vaccine. Tdap should be administered to meet the 7th grade requirement, regardless of the interval since the last tetanus- or diphtheria-toxoid containing vaccine .
The 2-dose MMR and 3-dose Hepatitis B series must be completed before entry into 7th grade.
HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is available to 9-18 year old girls. This vaccine prevents infection by HPV that causes 70% of all cervical cancers. The HPV vaccine is a series of three doses given over a six month period.
Meningococcal vaccine protects against meningitis and is given at 11-12 years of age.
2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine (previously only 1 dose was recommended).
For additional information on childhood and adolescent immunizations see the CDC web site.
