Altha Students Working Against Tobacco
![]()
Our SWAT Club began at the beginning of the school year in August 2008. During the past year our 23 members have been involved in learning about the way tobacco companies market their products. One of the ways they do this is to have movie stars smoking, looking cool and sophisticated!
One of our first events was held in the town square in Blountstown. We held up signs at passing traffic that said, "honk if you hate tobacco" and lots of people honked.

We had a pinata that represented a tobacco company executive, and took turns whacking at him until he fell apart ~

Our SWAT Advisor, Mrs. Freeman and her husband waved signs at passing traffic.
We have been involved in many other activities, including attending leadership training at the beginning of the school year, watching the "Strength Team" who taught us about the importance of making good life choices, and we held events for "Kick Butts Day" in March 2009.
We are looking forward to continuing to fight the good fight!
