A certified copy of your birth certificate is an important document.
Certified Birth and Death Certificates are available at the Calhoun County Health Department.
You may have a hospital issued record of birth with your footprints on it or a plain paper copy, but neither of these are recognized as an official certified birth certificate. A certified copy of your birth certificate is needed for many things: obtaining a driver’s license and passport, applying for social security and social service benefits, and entering school or the military. A computer-generated certificate that contains the State File Number is accepted as the official certification of birth and recognized as such by all agencies.
