Immunization Requirements for School Entry - 2012-2013

The mission of the school health program is to “Appraise, protect, and promote the health of students.”

Our School Health Nurses work in the Martin County Schools promoting student health through prevention, early intervention and treatment or referral for acute or chronic health problems.

Our nurses enhance health in the schools and community by providing health record reviews, health appraisals, nursing assessments, vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth and development screenings, health counseling, referrals and follow up of suspected or confirmed health problems, as well as emergency health services if on campus.

The School Health Nurse is an invaluable partner in ensuring that students are healthy, safe and ready to learn. They also provide education to school staff regarding the care of the chronically ill child, such as asthma, diabetes and life threatening allergies, in the school setting.

We have two certified diabetic educators on staff, who work closely with students, school staff and other school nurses to create a safe environment in which the student can learn.
