Healthy Start is an educational and supportive program that
serves pregnant women and families with children under age 3. Services include
parenting education, childbirth classes, breastfeeding support, psychosocial
counseling (individual, couple and family), smoking cessation, interconceptional
(women’s health) services, developmental screenings and case management.

Who can be in Healthy Start?
Healthy Start clients must reside in Nassau County. They also must be pregnant,
have a child under 3, or have been pregnant within the last 2 years.
How much does Healthy Start cost?
If you are a Healthy Start client all of our services are free!
How can I become part of Healthy Start?
You will be offered Healthy Start at your first pregnancy appointment with your
doctor or at the hospital after the birth of your baby. You can also call us at
548-1810 x5272 and sign yourself up at any time.
Where can I get Healthy Start services?
Services can be provided in your home, at any Health Department site, at your
local doctor appointments, or any other location in Nassau County.

Pregnancy Classes
Meet for an hour with other pregnant women that are due at
the same time you. Learn about baby development and bonding, coping with common
discomforts, nutrition and exercise, questions to ask your provider and
emotional and relationship changes.
2nd Tuesday of every month starting at 10 am going until 4 pm.

DID YOU KNOW? – At 4 months pregnant your baby can hear! Reading and
singing to your baby promotes brain development and bonding.
Childbirth Classes
Join us in your 7th month of pregnancy for a series of 4
classes that provide you with information to plan for the birth of your baby!
You are welcome to bring a partner to learn about: labor, breathing &
relaxation, medication options, post partum care, breastfeeding, infant care,
and car seat safety. Class times and locations may change so call us to reserve
your spot. Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a pillow, blanket, drink and
a snack.

Breastfeeding Support Group (Yummy Mummy Club)
A time for mothers to ask questions, receive up to date
information, obtain before and after feeding infant weight, and give support to
one another. A trained breastfeeding educator is there to assist.

DID YOU KNOW? – Used car seats are generally unsafe. Keep your baby
facing the back of the car until the height or weight limits of the seat is
reached. Loose items in your car are dangerous for you and your baby.
Reindeer Run
Join us for the Reindeer Run in Fernandina on Saturday December 4th. This event
includes a 5K, 10K, 1.5 walk and a kids run. Proceeds help to benefit Healthy
Start Families.
