Meet our Senior Leaders / Solinka Murillo-McIntosh - Director of Disease Control - Biography

Solinka Murillo-McIntosh initiated her career in public health in 1989 at the New York City Department of Health. She has continued her career public health for 21 years and held various positions ranging from: research, HIV surveillance, epidemiology, administration and case management; with a myriad of agencies and organizations (for profit and not for profit). One of her major achievements has been the development of TAPP (Teen Age Parenting Program). While at the Seminole County Health Department she was instrumental in the development and collaboration with the Seminole County School System for the provision of Healthy Start Case Management services in the county public schools (middle and high schools), during the 2008-2009 scholastic year. This program is primarily for pregnant and parenting teens. The collaboration has been extended until the 2012 scholastic year of which the following goals will be measured: graduation rates of pregnant and parenting teens, and rate of repeat pregnancies in participants in TAPP. Her interest is community health education, the assessment of health disparities of undeserved communities, women and children. Mrs. Murillo-McIntosh has a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Care Administration from Herbert Lehman College, Bronx, NY and a Master’s in Public Health in Community Health Education with a concentration in HIV/AIDS Education and Women’s Reproductive Health from Hunter College, New York, NY. She was also a recent scholar graduate (2009) of the University of South Florida – Public Health Leadership Institute of Florida where she received her certification.
