May 19, 2012 - Florida Statewide Distracted Driving Prevention Youth Summit

Central Florida Youth Organize Statewide Summit to Save Lives National Organizations for Youth Safety, AT&T, The Allstate Foundation, AAA, and Reynolds' Right Hands partner to plan first annual event.

Oviedo, FL –April 24, 2012 — Reynolds Right Hands, Inc. proudly announces its partnership with several national organizations to host the very first Florida Statewide Distracted Driving Prevention Youth Summit on May 19.

The summit unites youth all throughout Florida, primarily in the Central Florida area, to share information and develop local programs that save lives and make Florida's roads safer. Distracted driving, including texting while driving, is a silent killer that takes the lives of thousands each year in the United States. Utilizing peer-to-peer communication among youth, the summit includes driving simulators that recreate the effects of a deadly crash caused by distracted driving and unsafe driving practices. Speakers from throughout the state in the law enforcement, medical, and highway safety industries will inform youth further on the dangers of distracted driving.

With the partnership of National Organizations for Youth Safety, AT&T, The Allstate Foundation, American Automotive Association (AAA), and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Reynolds Right Hands will give 200 youth a community engagement toolkit to utilize in starting a traffic safety initiative in localities all throughout Florida.

On November 15, 2009, Ms. Christy Reynolds died in a car crash caused by distracted driving. Reynolds, a schoolteacher from Sanford, became another victim of the deadly practice known as distracted driving. Reynolds Right Hands, a youth-driven and entirely youth-led organization, has broken ground in Central Florida to take a stand against unsafe driving practices since early 2010. RRH began as a small student campaign at Crooms Academy of Information Technology, the school where Reynolds taught, Reynolds Right Hands is now an incorporated nonprofit in Florida that has taken part in several national campaigns that aim at promoting awareness and saving lives from distracted driving by engaging youth in a breakthrough manner.

The event will take place on May 19th from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM at AAA National Headquarters, located at 1000 AAA Drive, Lake Mary FL. Reynolds Right Hands is asking those who wish to attend to visit their Facebook page, http://facebook.com/reynoldsrh, to register their attendance. There is a limit of 200 youth allowed and space will fill up quickly.
