The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has renewed Volusia County Emergency Management’s StormReady recognition.

StormReady is a nationwide community preparedness program that encourages communities to proactively manage hazardous weather operations using clear-cut guidelines from the National Weather Service.

“Volusia County is vulnerable to many natural disasters, particularly devastating thunderstorms and hurricanes, “said Charlie Craig, director of Volusia County’s Emergency Management Division. “"This renewed StormReady designation helps strengthen our local hazardous weather operations by ensuring that our community leaders have the tools needed to receive life-saving National Weather Service Warnings in the quickest time possible.”

StormReady guidelines include maintaining a warning and emergency operations center, promoting public readiness through community seminars and developing a formal hazardous weather plan. The recognition is in effect through April 9, 2015.
