Strategic Planning

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is actively recruiting public health and health care experts to participate in a state-wide effort to increase Florida's ability to prepare for and respond to man-made and naturally occurring disasters.

The hard work and dedication of Florida's health and medical experts have already made Florida one of the most experienced and prepared of all states, but this vital work continues and we need the help of Florida's best and brightest.

The DOH Bureau of Preparedness and Response uses a strategic planning process that centers around six goals and 21 objectives to meet national and state domestic security priorities that increase the health and health care preparedness and response in Florida.

During the 2012-2013 funding year, the Bureau will continue to work with subject matter experts across the state to improve Florida's health and health care preparedness and response to disasters. Those who would like to participate in this process are encouraged to review the team overview and fill-out the online application.

The 2012-2014 Florida Public Health and Health Care (PHHP) Strategic Plan  provides a roadmap for the teams and the numerous and diverse partners involved in Florida's effort. This work aligns to and supports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's DHS National Preparedness Guidelines, DHS Target Capabilities also provide national guidance, and National Health Security Strategy. In March 2011, CDC released Public Health Preparedness Capabilities: National Standards for State and Local Planning, which creates national standards for public health preparedness capability-based planning and will assist state and local planners in identifying gaps in preparedness, determining the specific jurisdictional priorities, and developing plans for building and sustaining capabilities. This document was updated in July 2011, and was utilized during the 2012-14 PHHP Strategic Plan development process to ensure Florida's alignment with these national standards. In December 2011, FEMA released the Crosswalk of Target Capabilities to Core Capabilities, which aligns all 37 target capabilities from the Target Capabilities List (TCL) to individual core capabilities. The document is intended to support the transition that states, localities, tribes, and territories face in realigning activities organized by the TCL to the new core capabilities.
