County Grant Information
In the upcoming county grant cycle, each county will be eligible to receive 45 percent of the amount it deposited into the state EMS Trust Fund, as required by 401.113(1), Florida Statutes, during the 12 months between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013. This time frame is the state's fiscal year.
We are anticipating counties to begin submitting application forms by late July 2013. During July 2013, the state EMS program will notify each county of the specific amount it can obtain by completing the application process. Each county will receive its funds when the county provides the required information. The counties will receive all of their funds in one payment. Each new grant will begin as of the date of the award letter and end approximately 12 months later. Note, the county influences the beginning and ending dates of its grant according to when it submits its information.
These grants are required by paragraph 401.113(2) (a), Florida Statutes. Only the 67 Florida county governments can apply to receive these funds. The state refers to these grants as county grants to distinguish them from the emergency medical services (EMS) matching grants, in which counties can also obtain funds.
Section 401.113(1), Florida Statutes, states that the involved funds "must be used solely to improve and expand prehospital emergency medical services." Therefore, this does not allow the use of any funds for replacement and ongoing costs. At the county government's sole discretion, each can choose whether or not to allocate some of the funds they receive in this county grant program to other EMS organizations within the county.
