Notice to all ground based ALS EMS Providers:
Post 9/11, the Florida Department of Health distributed Mark I Kits to ALS EMS Providers in order to provide nerve agent antidote protection for our EMS
first responders. The Mark I Kits have been discontinued by the manufacturer and have been replaced with Duodotes. The Florida Department of Health is
in the process of receiving the replacement Duodotes for ground based ALS EMS providers and will begin shipment soon. Noted below is product information
on the Duodotes. Medical Directors will need to adjust agency protocols and training to account for the replacement nerve agent. The administration
process for the Duodote is identical to that of the Mark I kits. Should you have any specific questions regarding the distribution, please contact
Bobby Bailey. If you have specific questions regarding the antidote, its
actions, etc, please contact Dr. Brandon Brantley.
DUODOTE IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
The DuoDoteTM Auto-Injector (atropine 2.1 mg/0.7 mL and pralidoxime chloride 600 mg/2 mL),
replacement for the Mark I Kit, is intended as an initial treatment of
the symptoms of organophosphorus insecticide or nerve agent poisonings; definitive medical care should be sought immediately. The DuoDote
Auto-Injector should be administered by Emergency Medical Services personnel who have had adequate training in the recognition and treatment of nerve
agent or insecticide intoxication.
