Trauma Center Research Projects

Pursuant to Standard XIX of the Florida "Trauma Center Standards, DOH Pamphlet 150-9," all Level I and Pediatric trauma centers are required to continually expand the body of knowledge in the field of trauma through clinical and basic research programs. Each trauma center is to apply this newly acquired knowledge to improve the treatment of the injured patient and to disseminate the knowledge to other trauma centers and throughout the medical community. The Office of Trauma continued to evaluate the Level I and Pediatric trauma centers surveyed in 2011 to ensure the continued compliance with this standard.

2011 Outcomes:

  • Eleven of the 13 Level I and Pediatric trauma centers surveyed from 2009 to 2011 were in 100% compliance with Standard XIX at the time of the onsite survey (85%).

In 2011, Florida’s trauma and burn centers conducted 256 basic, clinical, and pharmaceutical research articles to disseminate the acquired knowledge throughout the medical community to improve services provided by Florida's trauma system continuum-of-care providers.

More information regarding these research programs can be found in the individual annual reports of the Level I and Pediatric trauma centers, which are included in the Florida Trauma System Annual Reports.
