Florida Trauma RegistryThe Florida Trauma Registry collects patient-level data from the state's verified trauma centers, as authorized by section 395.404(1), Florida Statutes. As a state verified facility, a trauma center must maintain a comprehensive database of those injured patients treated within the hospital. Each Trauma Center has its own unique software system that collects data in varying formats and then generates files submitted to the statewide Trauma Registry. The Next Generation Trauma Registry (NGTR) Project will improve the current physical structure of the State Trauma Registry as well as automate and secure submissions of files. Next Generation Trauma Registry ProjectData Collection and Technical AssistanceThe reporting requirements for trauma centers are listed in the Florida Trauma Registry Manual, February 2008, which is incorporated by reference in rule 64J-2.006, Florida Administrative Code. The Florida Trauma Registry Manual details the requirements for data collection and submission that are mandatory for all Florida trauma centers. In addition, all Florida trauma centers are encouraged to submit their data annually to the National Trauma Data Bank®. The Trauma Program does not provide, nor does it endorse, any particular trauma registry software product, as long as the software is able to meet the requirements detailed in the Florida Trauma Registry Manual. Florida trauma centers currently use the following: NATIONAL TRACS® (NTRACS), TraumaBase©, and Trauma One®. Research Data RequestsIn accordance with section 395.404(1)(b) and chapter 405, Florida Statutes, the Department of Health may provide Florida Trauma Registry data for purposes of research. All requests for research using Florida Trauma Registry data must be reviewed and approved by the Trauma Program and the Department of Health's Institutional Review Board (IRB). Researchers may also need to obtain IRB approval from their own institutions, if those institutions do not defer to the authority of the Department of Healths accredited IRB. A data request form and data use agreement are being reviewed by the department and each trauma center. Until these forms are approved, Florida Trauma Registry data are not available for purposes of research at this time. Upon approval, notice of availability of Florida Trauma Registry data for research will be posted to this website and announced in Traumacomm, the Trauma Program's electronic weekly newsletter.
