Interpretation &
Translation Services |
|
The Refugee Health Program (RHP), in
its quest to provide culturally sensitive services to its
clients, utilizes many interpretation and translation services.
Services available, subject to funding, include on-site
interpretation, telephonic interpretation, and document
translation. The services offered are discussed in further
detail below. |
|
On-Site Interpretation
Bilingual staff in local county health departments may provide
on-site interpretation services for refugees who are receiving
services in the refugee clinic. The interpreter will assist the
refugee and healthcare provider by providing pertinent
health-related information to each party. On-site interpreters
should be trained in medical interpretation and be available to
address any concerns or questions the refugee may have for the
healthcare provider. |
|
Telephonic Interpretation
Telephonic interpretation allows the refugee to communicate with
the healthcare provider through a conference or three-way
calling system. Telephonic interpretation should be used when
qualified on-site interpreters are unavailable or when
communicating with a refugee by phone.
The RHP contracts with Language Line
Services to provide telephonic interpretation services in over
170 languages and may be accessed by any staff member within the
refugee clinic. County health departments may be reimbursed for
utilizing telephonic interpretation services during the
provision of refugee health services including health
assessments, immunizations, and refugee health case management.

Translation Services
When funds are available, the RHP will translate health-related
educational materials into multiple languages for use around the
state. The RHP does not hold a contract with any provider for
translation services although there are several companies that
provide these services. The RHP has provided a list of
commonly used translation service providers
