In 2001, World Refugee Day was established by the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to honor and remember refugees
across the world. Each year, on the 20th of June, refugees and refugee service
providers come together to celebrate the strengths and contributions of refugees
to the communities in which we reside. Many celebrations include native dance
performances, community gatherings and luncheons, poster presentations, press
conferences, and naturalization ceremonies. The table below includes information
about previous World Refugee Day themes and events. |
