Previous Radon Training for County Health Department and Non-Profit Organizations

Free training sessions took place August, 2007

The Florida Department of Health, Division of Environmental Health conducted free one day training sessions on radon at various locations throughout the state.  This free training was intended for CHD staff, extension agents, building inspectors, school officials or any one wanting more in depth knowledge about radon.  One hundred and seventy five (175) individuals registered, and of those 110, attended the sessions (63%).  There was overall satisfaction with the information provided during training, and it was a success. The sessions were an all day event and provided a full overview of radon: what is radon, how to test, how it is a risk, how to fix radon problems and how to prevent radon problems.

Training sessions were held at:

  • August 2nd - Tallahassee
  • August 21st - Tampa
  • August 23rd - Fort Lauderdale

Remember that radon is a significant health threat facing Floridians.  It is a naturally occurring radioactive gas found throughout Florida at levels above the US EPA action level.  Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer and the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.  Recent data submitted to the Department of Health shows 1 out of 5 residences tested for radon and over 4500 school rooms reporting elevated radon levels.  If you have any questions, or for information on future trainings please call us at 850-245-4288.
