pinellas_lead The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program was established in 1992 through a grant from
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The program maintains a statewide
blood lead surveillance system and coordinates with federal, state and local partners to
develop and implement strategies to eliminate childhood lead poisoning in Florida. The
program also provides case management to children with elevated blood lead levels,
educates the public and professionals about lead screening and lead poisoning
prevention, and works to develop state and local policies that protect children at risk
for lead poisoning.
This map displays shaded areas that exceed the national average for pre-1950 or pre-1970 housing. Children ages 1 and 2 living in the shaded areas should be screened.

 2004SHRUGPoster
The purpose of this poster is to provide a few examples of chronic disease, i.e. lung cancer, data visualization. It is important for public health officials to be able to generate hypotheses of areas with potential problems where further investigation is required. Mapping of aggregated data can provide a good starting point.

Health Traccking Map
A Procedure for Disease Mapping: Bayesian Models and GIS

A traditional approach to mapping disease is to use the standardized incidence ratio (SIR), which is an estimate of incident number of disease cases in a population relative to what might be expected if the study population had the same disease incidence rate as some larger (or standard) comparison population. There are several limitations to this approach and other methods can make use of the correlation inherent in the data. For example, Bayesian models are flexible enough to incorporate spatial correlation and to adjust the overall mean ratio when relatively few cases exist.

GISProcess_onsite The steps illustrate the real-world application of GIS to an Environmental Health issue in Gadsden County. The end result information products include maps depicting the location of septic drain fields in severely sloped terrain, areas in which raw sewage has surfaced. The County Health Department can use the spatial analyses and these information products to communicate with other County officials, local developers, and the public.

The map displays actual soil evaluation water table calls in inches. It allows comparison to the USDA soil manual shape file. ItÂ’s a good tool for multiple applications at the supervisory and management levels.
