1. Project Summary

The April meeting was held on April 16th, 2007 at the Park Place Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 5:30-7:00pm.

Latest News:
May 14, 2007 - Kupfrian Park eyes improvementsopens in new window

  • Twenty attendees (7 Governmental and 13 Residents) were present.  This was a nice turnout!
  • County Commissioner “Marie Young” was able to attend along with the Director of “Clean and Green”, a county funded cleanup organization, “Neighborhood Enterprise Foundation” a county financial services program, and two Escambia County Sheriff’s Office representatives.
  • The Director of “Clean & Green” explained the program and highlighted the work that can be done in cooperation with the County’s Neighborhood and Environmental Services Department.  Project “Clean Sweep” is being conducted in the redevelopment areas of Escambia County.  This program will include Kupfrian Park in July of this year.  It is usually a one-time cleanup that is performed by asking the residents to bring the items that they want removed (old furniture, appliances, hazardous chemicals, mattresses, and yard debris) to the property easement.  Residents will be notified through a separate meeting approximately 1 week prior to the clean sweep so that they can gather their materials to discard.  Abandoned cars will also be removed with the owner’s permission.  All of this is free of charge!
  • The representative for the Neighborhood Enterprise Foundation discussed the financial eligibility program for public sewer connections and septic tank replacements.
  • The law enforcement officers present discussed how they can respond to drug trafficking complaints.  It was made clear that the Escambia County Sheriff’s office is committed to fighting the drug trafficking problem in the county.  The residents were also given information on the County’s Neighborhood Watch program.  The “Community Relations Unit” of the Sheriff’s office would train all residents who want to participate in the program. When suspicious activity is recognized, the neighborhood watch leader may call dispatch and file a complaint on behalf of the Neighborhood Watch group.
  • Street lights are still being installed and some residents are taking notice.  This is being received very favorably.
  • The Engineering plans for the storm water project are underway, and I have been informed by the County Engineer that he may have something in writing by the next meeting in May.
