ESCAMBIA COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT July PACE EH Project Update
The ?Kupfrian Park? PACE-EH project in Pensacola, Florida is underway! Partnerships are being formed to strengthen this project and the neighborhood is getting ready for the First Community Meeting scheduled for August 21, 2006 at the Pensacola Retirement Village. Kupfrian Park is primarily comprised of low-income, elderly residents who have expressed that flooding and failing septic tanks are among the Environmental Health concerns that they have. It has also been expressed that mosquitoes, lack of sidewalks and adequate lighting, and speeding are issues that must be addressed.
So far, we have made contact with City and County Redevelopment, City and County Public Works, DEP, Front Porch Florida, NAACP, Baptist Hospital, City Council and County Commission. I will be giving an overview of the project to City Council and County Commission within the next two weeks and will be soliciting their participation on this project. The DEP, Front Porch Florida, NAACP, Baptist Hospital and County Redevelopment have accepted invitations to be on the CEHT. Last Saturday, July 22, 2006 we attended the Circle Community Clinic?s Minority Health Fair and passed out the fliers, brochures, and historical information on Kupfrian Park. Over the next couple of weeks we will be distributing many more and will be making contact with local media providers. Many of the visitors to our booth at the Health Fair reminisced about swimming in the pond located south of the retirement complex in Kupfrian Park and said that many kids drowned in the pond several years ago.
We are excited to be moving forward on this project and will be keeping you informed. Please find the enclosed brochure (pdf), flier (pdf) and historical information that will be provided at the first meeting.
