April was a month full of follow up work and steadfast progress that was achieved. The sidewalk project is almost complete and residents have been enjoying this infrastructure improvement. There was a community meeting for Wabasso on April 3rd at which was discussed the subject of a 5 year plan for Wabasso. The idea was well received and the two issues identified that will impact the community the most in the next five years were high-scaled proposed developments encroaching on the community and also the need for a health assessment. On April 17th, the recently formed 5 Year Plan Committee, comprised of community leaders from Wabasso, met and discussed the 11 proposed developments that are to be built within a one year radius of Wabasso. I invited the Indian River County Planning Assistant Director, Stan Boling, to attend to educate us all on the proposed developments and he attended graciously with satellite maps in hand. He answered all of our questions and asked what we thought would help ease the transition of the developments into Wabasso. Members of the Committee unanimously said extending sewer lines, sidewalks, and paving roads would be appreciated. Other significant events occurring in April included the bid closing for the water project, a multi-agency sweep of Wabasso, a PACE presentation in St. Augustine, FL, and a miraculous commitment from the affiliates of the World Changers and Regatta Homes to take over building a home for a Wabasso resident, Mrs. Brown. On July 11th, 200-300 people will come to build Mrs. Browns home and I was assigned to coordinate the community side of this undertaking. Two other homes should be constructed in the next three months, also, so Wabasso will be full of people and lots of joyous residents and family members who have been waiting over 18 months for these events to take place. Nothing can take the place of persistence. Talent will
not; nothing is more common that unsuccessful men with talent. Genius
will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the
world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are
omnipotent.- Calvin Coolidge Past Indian River County UpdatesMedia CoverageThe following files are provided in the Adobe Acrobat pdf format. Files over 100 kb in size that may take longer to download and view, have their file size listed. May 6, 2006 -
