Subject:  Update - West Ocala Neighborhood PACE EH Project.
Marion County Health Department, Environmental Health Division

Project Summary

Marion County Health Department’s PACE-EH program, recently received an analysis of air quality samples taken from multiple sites, in the neighborhood of West Ocala. The sites were chosen because of their relationship to the Royal Oak Charcoal Plant, an industrial site, which was the focus of community concerns and a component of the PACE-EH project. The samples were analyzed by two separate entities and a report has been generated.

PACE-EH coordinator, Herman Hale, RN, met with members of the Marion County Health Department’s Environmental Health division to discuss the results of the testing and to formulate the most effective method of disseminating that information. With guidance from this group, a community meeting has been scheduled, for July 31, 2006; at 6:00 pm. Mr. Hale has been in contact with concerned community members and offered them a personal invitation to this meeting. CEHAT members have also been contacted, along with members of the group, Renew Ocala. Additional announcements will be posted with the media and Mr. Hale will coordinate contacting additional community members and city officials via mail.

From the initial response, this meeting should provide the PACE-EH process an avenue to continue its work within this community.
