In the month of April the community meeting featured fire education. The structure of manufacture homes are different than traditional home built and therefore certain addition fire safety precautions should be taken. Next month the meeting will be centered on hurricane preparedness.
Solid Waste Authority presented Watergate Estates with the Anita Lankler Adopt-A-Spot program of the year award. The award was presented at the CCRT (Countywide Community Revitalization Team) meeting by Joanna Aiken who stated Watergate Community had the most organized community clean ups. Elyse Brown a fire safety specialist from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue gave a wonderful fire and life safety presentation to the community. Her focus was preventing fire deaths and injuries as well as smoke alarm education, installations and battery checks. A major emphasis was placed on developing and practicing an escape plan for the home and when youre on vacation. Mobile homes are compared to ovens because they are surrounded by metal and heat up very quickly. You have only 45 seconds to escape a manufactured home fire because within five minutes the whole home could be on the ground. A representative from the Department of Health Division of Environmental Health spoke to the community about rodents. Pest was another identified issue from the community assessment. Pamphlets were handed out and individual questions were answered.
