POLK COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
June PACE-EH Update

My final meeting with Combee consisted of a feedback forum for the community. I had them discuss with me, Tim Mayer and Dr. Daniel Haight all of the things they thought PACE-EH had accomplished in their community. I solicited feedback on PACE-EH itself, myself as the facilitator, and the role of the Polk County Health Department. At the regular CARE meeting after that last PACE-EH meeting, I gave everyone who had participated in PACE-EH certificates. The CARE group voted at that meeting to form a CARE subcommittee to continue the PACE-EH work and advocating for the PACE-EH objectives that they had established for themselves.

I had our first PACE-EH meeting in Wahneta on July 8th at the COPS station in Wahneta. I handed out over 600 flyers before that date and had 12 citizens show up - three Hispanic and nine white residents. I was very upfront with them regarding the fact that we had to have a mixed group because of the large population in Wahneta. We discussed the race issue and community issues that they hope to address during PACE-EH . (I'll be submitting a progress report with total information on this community after our meeting this week.)
