Nonionizing Radiation Machines (Lasers)
The Florida Department of Health regulates high-power laser devices, which can start fires or cause severe burns and blindness if misused. The Department also answers inquiries about other nonionizing radiation sources such as ultraviolet lamps, microwave ovens, TV and radio antennas, cellular antennas, and electromagnetic fields. The Department currently has registered more than 3,000 lasers at over 800 facilities, including hospitals, universities, industrial plants, doctors' offices, and laboratories. Please be advised that registering a laser does not authorize you to use that laser on humans for any medical, health, cosmetic, or other purpose. Before using a laser for these purposes, please check with the appropriate health practitioner licensing board regarding licensure requirements for laser use on humans. Unlicensed use constitutes both the unlicensed practice of a health care profession and a crime.
