As of April 30, 2012, each local County Building Department has the
sole authority to issue plan approval and construction approval of
public swimming pools.
The Department of Health is responsible for issuing operation
permits. Ten County Health
Departments have been delegated the authority to review plans and issue
permits: Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade, Escambia, Lee, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, and Volusia.
Several of these engineering CHDs process permits for pools in
neighboring counties: Escambia for Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay,
Washington and Holmes. Polk for Highlands and Sumter. Lee
for Charlotte, Sarasota for Manatee and Hardee, Volusia for Flagler. The remaining 45 counties
are processed by either the Tallahassee (850-245-4240) or Orlando
(407-317-7172) regional engineering office.
