Florida Cancer PlanThe Comprehensive Cancer Control Program housed under the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The program focuses on colorectal, lung, ovarian, prostate, and skin cancers. The main objective of the cooperative agreement is to reduce the cancer burden through a collaborative effort with public and private partners throughout Florida. This is accomplished by working with the existing governor-appointed Cancer Control Research Advisory Board (C-CRAB) and a myriad of statewide cancer stakeholders including National Cancer Institute/Cancer Information Services, the American Cancer Society and Florida Comprehensive Cancer Control Initiative, to name a few. The Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) Program, C-CRAB along with the efforts of dedicated statewide partners, are proud to present the Florida Cancer Plan 2003-2006. The Florida Cancer Plan 2003-2006 is the ninth adaptation since its inception in 1980 and continues to build upon the strong foundation of reducing cancer mortality and morbidity in Florida through prevention, early detection and access to state-of-the-art treatment. The plan provides a blueprint for a course of action by identifying relevant cancer data, outlining the states goals and strategies, and linking partners to better address areas of need. The intent of this document is to present the 2003-2006 strategic plan including goals, strategies, and projected activities for 2003-2004. Also included in this document is a description of the burden of cancer in Florida overall and for priority cancers. We hope that this plan will serve as a guide to better understand cancer in Florida and the focus as we work to reduce the cancer burden in the state.
