Back to Public Health Dental Program Oral Health WorkforceReport of the 2009-2010 Workforce Survey of Dental Hygienists (Published December 2011)The Florida Department of Health prepared and administered a survey of dental hygienists to coincide with the biennial license renewal period that ended February 28, 2010; ninety-three percent of dental hygienists with an active Florida license responded to the survey. This initial report will provide a benchmark for future information on the workforce of dental hygienists. The results will be invaluable to policy makers in planning for an adequate and competent workforce to meet the oral health needs of Floridians Workforce Survey of Dentists Report 2009–2010 (PDF* 1.81 MB) Department of Health Oral Healthcare Workforce Ad Hoc Advisory CommitteeThe Oral Healthcare Workforce Ad Hoc Advisory Committee was convened in 2008 to evaluate and strategically address the complex range of oral health workforce concerns ranging from public policy, professional practice issues, supply and demand influences; both current and projected, educational and training matters, and regulatory questions. Florida Oral Health Workforce Workgroup supported by a Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA)This workforce initiative built upon the recommendations of the State Oral Health Improvement Plan (SOHIP) and the Surgeon General's Ad Hoc Oral Healthcare Workforce Committee Report. Drawing upon the Department of Health's and SOHIP's existing partnerships, collaborations, and experiences, a statewide oral health workforce workgroup was convened in the fall of 2008. The workgroup was charged with initiating a statewide oral health needs assessment and developing a realistic strategic plan that will act as a blueprint to improve the State's oral health workforce and service delivery infrastructure. Oral Health Florida Workforce WorkgroupIn an effort to continue to move forward the workforce initiatives of the State Oral Health Improvement Plan, the Department of Health Oral Healthcare Workforce Ad Hoc Advisory Committee and the Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA) Workforce Workgroup, the state's oral health coalition, Oral Health Florida, has created a new workgroup. Meetings are expected to begin late in 2009; this workgroup is open to all interested stakeholders.
