Initiatives

Currently, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) has provided funding for two county health department pilot teledentistry projects that will provide preventive dental services to rural populations - one in Nassau County and one in either Wakulla or Baker Counties.

In September of 2004, the University of Florida College of Dentistry (UFCD) initiated an ongoing HRSA funded teledentistry program aimed at enhancing its Statewide Network for Community Oral Health. The UFCD teledentistry program allows UFCD to expand its capabilities in the areas of distance learning, videoconferencing, Web-based technology and digital radiography. The workgroup is currently waiting for results from the DOH and UFDC projects.
