The Antiepileptic Drug Program

The availability of medications is a critical component in Florida's comprehensive program for people with epilepsy. The Florida Department of Health administers the Antiepileptic Drug Program for low-income Floridians. Many commonly prescribed medications for epilepsy are available through the County Health Departments.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the program a person must:

  • Be a resident of Florida, with intent to remain in Florida.
  • Have a diagnosis of epilepsy.
  • Meet income eligibility requirements.
  • Complete eligibility screening annually.

How Do I Apply?

A person in need of medication can apply to participate in the Antiepileptic Drug Program at the County Health Department. An eligibility screening will be completed. If eligible, the person will receive up to a three-month supply of his or her prescribed medication. This entire process may take up to 30 days.
