Adult Osteoporosis manual (called Bone Builders) in English, Spanish and Creole Adult Education Manual includes: PowerPoint slides, interactive games (denoted on slides where games might be appropriate, but can be used as the speaker finds appropriate), handouts, and sample data forms. Bone Builders is an interactive educational curriculum developed to educate the public about risk factors, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis experts from around the state helped develop the curriculum. Preliminary evaluations from the public indicate an increase of knowledge about osteoporosis after hearing the presentation. Please Note: The Adult Education Manual materials available below are in the Portable Document Format (pdf). You may need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print them. Some material is also available in Microsoft PowerPoint format (ppt) which requires the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer or the full PowerPoint program. Additionally, the sample press releases are in Rich Text Format (rtf) and should work with most Word Processor programs. Activities Myths and Facts About Osteoporosis Quiz – A check off sheet for the audience to use to
help them evaluate their personal risk and knowledge of osteoporosis. Answers to Myths and Facts About Osteoporosis Quiz. Answer sheet that can also be used
as a handout. Understanding our Bones—Suggestions to help the audience visualize what bone
architecture looks like. Risk Factor Worksheet—Audience check off list of risk factors you can control and risk
factors you cannot control. Allows a participant to evaluate their osteoporosis risk. Calcium Worksheet—Audience members evaluate how much calcium is in foods. Calcium Card Game—The speaker asks for 10 volunteers from the audience to each hold
one calcium card. Each Calcium Card displays a food rich in calcium. Allowing the
audience to talk out loud, it is their job to rank the calcium content in the foods,
from the highest to the lowest level of calcium. Fun game! Results to Calcium Worksheet or Calcium Card Game—Participants will be surprised and
have fun learning the calcium contents in foods. Nutrition Facts—Help your audience learn how to read a food label. Also, use as a handout. Food and Calcium—Ethnic specific meal plans that include calcium rich foods.
Exercise Guide—Help your audience learn effective weight bearing exercises that can
help them build and maintain bone. Also, use as a handout. Environmental Safety—Engage the audience with this "fun cartoon" to fall proof their
homes. The cartoon is part of the slide presentation and can also be used as a handout. Affirming a Positive Change—End of presentation recap to inspire the audience to make changes.
