Initiating Change: Creating an Asthma-Friendly School.   This toolkit was developed by CDC and the National Asthma Education and Prevention program to help advocates at the district and school levels persuade people in their schools and communities of the importance of asthma-friendly schools.  Visit the CDC site for further information.

Asthma Articles.  Healthy Childcare® is a bimonthly publication for childcare programs devoted to health and safety issues. Published six times a year, each issue includes information on health, safety, medicines, staff health, health education activities, illnesses, and more; including reproducible parent information sheets and mini-posters.

Asthma Care in Schools Presentation.  The Department of Health, in partnership with the University of Florida and the Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center, Inc. (AHEC), provided “Asthma Care in Schools” workshop for school personnel and school health staff during March 2006. The following video presentation was presented during the workshop and is based on the Nursing Guidelines for the Delegation of Care for Students with Asthma in Florida Schools.

Schooled in Asthma.  The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) received funding through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) to develop, implement, and evaluate a training program encouraging pediatricians to incorporate evidence-based asthma management guidelines with school health concepts and practices. Six AAP chapters participated in the project implementation and initiated a wide range of activities related to school health and asthma.  Schooled in Asthma tools and resources are free to download at www.aap.org/schooledinasthma

School Health Asthma Guidelines 2005.  The newly published Nursing Guidelines for the Delegation of Care for Students with Asthma in Florida Schools provides up to date information on asthma, legal requirements for addressing students with special needs, guidelines for safe delegation, recommendations for staff training and monitoring of direct caregivers.  The Guidelines are now available at this site.

Asthma Friendly Child Care.  This is a checklist developed by the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America/New England Chapter, with input from the Mass. DPH Occupational Health Program.
