Using Internal and External Data Sources

The process of improving performance begins with gathering data for analysis. When pulling together information for review and analysis at any point in the process, it's important to consider multiple data sources, in order to get the most complete picture of your county health department (CHD)'s or central office program's performance.

Internal data sources are those that the Department of Health manages, gathers data for, and produces; external data sources are those originating outside of the department. Before beginning to strategically identify priorities to work on, it's important to review both internal and external data sources to broaden your perspective of the state's - or your community's - overall health and well-being.

Here are links to some examples of internal and external data sources you may want to review.
