National Voluntary Public Health Accreditation
The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) launched the first national accreditation program for all public health departments on Sept. 16, 2011. The goal of PHAB's accreditation program is to protect and improve Americans’ health by advancing the quality and performance of all the nation’s public health departments. The accreditation program is a peer review process that evaluates state and local health departments against recognized standards and measures. To learn more, visit the PHAB website.
Florida Initiative
The Florida Department of Health is pursing accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board by Sept. 30, 2014. Florida, as an integrated public health agency, is seeking a single accreditation decision for the
state office and all 67 county health departments. Florida is applying under the PHAB centralized state model. The centralized model is a two-step process which begins with the state health office followed by the county health departments. The table below shows the schedule of key milestones in the process.
