The Florida Department of Health (DOH) has a strong commitment to its mission: Protect and promote the health of all residents and visitors in the state through community efforts, including cooperative agreements with counties.
 

Improving the efficiency of these processes is challenging, but vital to improving overall performance. Based on the tried-and-true "Plan-Do-Check-Act" (PDCA) model, Florida's local county health departments and central office programs use this unique approach to improve their business and health processes and outcomes. Their use of the DOH 5-Step Performance Improvement Process results in a department-wide "big picture" of our organizational effectiveness in meeting our mission. Using this approach to improvement, along with making sure that department employees have access to the professional resources they need to succeed, is key to maintaining the department's ability to measure, improve, and communicate the results of the department's work.
