Outcome Objective For
successful implementation of public health interventions, it is important
to know where you are headed, who has agreed to be responsible for getting
you there, and how you are going to get there. To accomplish this,
participants should develop a measurable outcome objective or set of
outcome objectives for each identified strategy.
Outcome objectives are statements
about how much and when a health issue should be changed within a
specified time period. Outcome objectives are long-term, realistic,
measurable objectives that should relate directly to strategic
goals. Desired outcome objectives are the quantitative
measurements of health issues at some future long-term date
( 5-10 years)and is something that the LPHS partners can and should strive
accomplish.
Example:
By 2010, less than 10% of school
aged children in Mango County will report being exposed to environmental
tobacco smoke in a 30 day period.
Impact Objectives Impact
objectives measure the level to which a direct determinant or risk factor
is expected to be reduced within a specified time period. Impact
objectives are more Intermediate (1-5 years) than outcome objectives.
Impact objectives are realistic, measurable objectives that relate
directly to risk factors or determinants of the health issue.
Impact objectives are statements about how much and when the program or
intervention should affect the determinant. Impact objectives are
quantitative measurements of determinants at an intermediate future date.
Examples:
By September 2007, 100 percent of
school aged children in Mango County, Florida will be free from exposure
to tobacco smoke on school district property and at school sponsored
events.
By September 2007, 100 percent of
school aged children in Mango County, Florida will be free from exposure
to tobacco smoke at playgrounds and county parks and recreation
facilities.
Process Objective Action
statements aimed at affecting one or more of the contributing factors that
influence the level of risk factors and determinants. Short term
(usually one year), realistic, measurable process objectives
relate to activities that will make a difference ultimately in
impacts and outcomes.
Examples:
By 2006, the Mango County
Commission and the Mango County School Board will adopt a resolution which
commits local government and school district administration to the goal of
creating environmental tobacco smoke free conditions for all children in
Mango County.
All parents of school children
will receive a Tobacco Free School notice in their childs open house
information package at the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year.
Signs indicating designated
smoking areas will be posted at the Mango County Recreation Park prior to
the 2005 childrens soccer season.
