The Forces of Change Assessment Exercise

During the Forces of Change Assessment, participants engage in brainstorming sessions aimed at identifying forces — such as trends, factors, or events — that are or will be influencing the health and quality of life of the community. The forces identified through this process — together with the results of the other three MAPP Assessments — will serve as the foundation for the next MAPP phase — Identifying Strategic Issues. The Forces of Change Assessment is designed to help answer questions such as: “What is occurring or might occur in the community that could affect the health of our residents or could affect the local public health system?” and “What specific threats or opportunities are generated by these occurrences?”

Directions

Using the Leon County Community Description and the Forces of Change Brainstorming worksheet as a guide, list factors, events, and trends that may be contributing to or have the potential to affect the health and quality of life in the community now and in the future. In addition, use the Threats and Opportunities worksheet to record identified Forces, Threats Posed and Opportunities that might possibly be created as a result of the forces or trends.
