Local Public Health System
Assessment Exercise
The Local Public Health System Assessment LPHSA, is a broad
assessment, involving all the organizations and entities that contribute
to public health in the community. The local public health system
assessment answers the questions What are the components, activities,
competencies, and capacities of our local public health system? and How
are the Essential Services being provided to our community?
Review the results of
Leon County's public health system assessment.
Using the worksheet-LPHSA
Challenges and Opportunities,
identify which essential services are being done well, which ones need
continued effort, which ones may need more activity for improvement, and
which ones require better coordination and sharing of resources among
partners.
The example worksheet
Results
Briefing Sheet for Spring County may be
used as a model when writing detailed information documenting your group's
analysis about a particular essential service.
When looking at LPHSA results, put the results into the context of
health issues, communicating in terms the community can understand and using tangible
examples.
- How has strong performance helped us?
- How has weak performance hurt us?
Look at strategic planning priorities and ask:
- At what must we excel to achieve our goals?
- Do these results look right? What are the underlying causes of this
result?
Consider, for example, political climate, skills and experience of
providers
- Is it necessary to shift resources?
- Should resources be shifted from high performing areas?
