We have concluded the implementation phase of our EDRS project.  Now we turn our attention to making a great system, even better.  We will update the information concerning new features being incorporated along with information on how those features were developed.  The following list is not all inclusive.  There are many "behind the scenes" changes that are also being implemented designed to enhance our service to the public.

We will also keep you informed concerning any new version releases and what you may expect to see in those releases.

Changes Made and Processes Changed

Date Implemented

Save Without Edits We are adding a second "Save" button on the toolbar for EDRS and EBRS.  This is a shortcut button for the Save Without Edits function.  The familiar blue disk will still be there but it will now have a companion yellow button.  This shortcut will save time and prevent unintentional hard saves January 2013

New Reports Tab This enhancement creates a new tab on the death record exclusively for the funeral director/staff users.  This tab has data fields for all of the information that funeral homes routinely report to the Funeral Board.  In addition to now capturing the report data, the Funeral Board has agreed to archive the reports through EDRS which eliminates the need to deliver the hard copies to Tallahassee.  January 2013

FAX Confirmation This enhancement now provides a confirmation window before actually sending the fax.  This additional step will help prevent "accidental" sending of the fax attestation. January 2013

72 Hour Clock This change was specifically requested by funeral directors.  On the FAX tab, you will see a new field of Expected Return.  This clock begins when you first send the FAX ATTESTATION to the certifier.  In addition to the clock, the system will now alert you when you attempt to open a record, that the 72 hours has now elapsed and the fax has not been returned.  This enhancement will make it much easier to determine which doctors should be contacted without having to view each individual record to calculate the timeframe. January 2013

ME Notes Field This change opens the Medical Examiner Notes field to be viewed by funeral directors and online certifiers.  Opening this field will allow the medical examiner to communicate instructions or information about a cause of death.  The funeral directors or certifiers will not have to contact the ME office for this information thereby making the correction process more efficient. January 2013

Social Security Verification This change will cause the system to resend any failed SSA verification transmissions. This allows creates a pop up window for the Funeral Director when performing a final save, prompting them to re-attempt the verification on any failed SSN fields.  This enhancement is designed to reduce the errors in reporting information to the Social Security Administration. January 2013

Multiple FAX images This enhancement will only display the most current accepted FAX ATTESTATION image as the active image available. If the system receives a newer version, all older versions are marked INACTIVE. This will eliminate any confusion for the Funeral Director or Medical Examiner as to which image is the most recent. January 2013

Application for Certificates This enhancement creates a generic application for certifications with the decedent information pre-populated. Fees will be omitted from this application as county fees vary greatly. The funeral director will generate the application and handwrite the appropriate fees. They may then forward that application by mail, fax or personal courier to the county office along with the appropriate payments. This process should have a positive impact for the counties in regards to their inventory of preprinted applications as well as adding convenience for the funeral directors and families. January 2013

Proper Cause of Death This enhancement updates the Medical edits associated with Cause of Death to better inform physicians as to proper causes of death and their associated etiology. January 2013

Accidental Hard Saves This enhancement creates a pop-up asking the user to confirm that they are intending to do a final save. This change should prevent users from accidentally performing a hard save before they are ready. January 2013
