Council Membership

The Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program Advisory Council is comprised of 16 members appointed by the State Surgeon General (Chapter 381.78, F.S.). Appointed members serve a four-year term on the council.

Membership Representation:

?         Four members must be a survivor with a brain injury or a family member.

?         Four members must be a survivor with a spinal cord injury or a family member.

?         At least two members representing the special needs of children with a brain or spinal cord injury.

?         The balance shall be physicians, other allied health professionals, administrators of brain and spinal cord programs, and representatives of support groups.

In 2002, the then Secretary of the Department of Health established the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Advisory Council Ad Hoc Committee pursuant to section 20.34(6), F.S.  The purpose of the committee is to ensure that historical knowledge, continuity, and technical assistance is maintained for the purpose of continuous strategic planning and quality improvement efforts of the council and the BSCIP.  The committee is established for a period of two years and may be reestablished if deemed necessary.  The committee is comprised of up to five members appointed by the State Surgeon General.
