Welcome to the State Primary Care Office

Florida's State Primary Care Office coordinates local, state and federal resources to improve primary care access and health professional workforce availability in medically underserved communities throughout Florida. The State Primary Care Office is funded through a Primary Care Services Resource Coordination and Development Cooperative Agreement between the Florida Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration.

Florida's Primary Care Office also facilitates the "Community Health Center Access Program Act", Florida Statute 409.91255, a program of distribution of financial assistance for the expansion of Florida's federally qualified health centers for the purpose of providing primary and preventive health care and urgent care services to medically underserved Floridians. "The Community Health Center Access Program Act" supports the coordination of federal, state and local resources to assist health centers in developing  expanded community-based primary care delivery systems.

The State Office of Primary Care Office reviews areas of the state and makes recommendations for their federal designation as Health Professional Shortage Areas (primary care, dental and mental health), and Medically Underserved Areas/Populations. The State Primary Care Office  recommends health professionals for placement in underserved areas, including the National Health Service Corps and the J-1 Visa Waiver (State 30) Program. Below are links to information regarding health shortage designations and health professional recruitment and placement.
