ORANGE CITY, FLORIDA, April 25, 2011– Mohamad Masri, M.D., is the newest member of Florida Hospital Fish Memorial’s medical team. Highly respected in his field, Dr. Masri is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine. Dr. Masri has practiced medicine in Central Florida for five years and has extensive specialty training.

Dr. Masri received his medical degree at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 1994. He completed an internship and residency at the State University of New York in Brooklyn, and a one year hematology/oncology fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He received a Fellow of the Year Award while attending Albert Einstein College. He then pursued three additional years of training at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. His education focused on treating breast, lung, gastrointestinal and prostate cancers. He also studied lymphoma and leukemia.

While at Tulane, Dr. Masri managed inpatient, consultative and emergency patient services at four affiliated hospitals. His responsibilities included managing a bone marrow transplant unit and a chemotherapy unit. During this period, he initiated, designed and implemented clinical research trials and gave presentations at medical conferences. He has published articles in respected medical journals and has collaborated with Vanderbilt University Research Group as an investigator in clinical trials.

“We are fortunate to have Dr. Masri on our medical team. His specialized training, depth of clinical understanding and experience further enhance the strength of our existing oncology services. Aside from his medical skill, his patient-centered focus aligns well with Florida Hospital’s compassionate approach to care,” said Fish Memorial President and CEO Joe Johnson.

When working with people who have been diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders, Dr. Masri draws on his own knowledge and collaborates with a multi-specialty medical team to design a comprehensive treatment plan. “Physicians today understand the need to work together to achieve the best possible results. A team approach gives patients access to a range of expertise. We also have a responsibility to educate patients. I encourage my patients to ask questions—by understanding their condition and by being aware of the advanced treatments that are now available, they feel more confident about their recovery,” Dr. Masri commented.

Dr. Masri is currently accepting new patients. His practice is located at 1061 Medical Center Drive, Suite 305, in Orange City. For more information, please call 386-917-7630.
