Clean-ups raise awareness and community pride

DAYTONA BEACH- The community driven project PACE EH is hosting a Neighborhood Clean-up in the area surrounding the Chiles Academy on George Engram Boulevard in Daytona Beach. This clean-up project is part of the health department’s Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health or PACE EH.

“Community clean-ups show that people who use an area care about its appearance,” said Dr. Bonnie J. Sorensen, director of the Volusia County Health Department. “Taking part in a community clean-up has a positive impact on a community’s health; it raises awareness, quality of life, neighborhood pride and a sense of community”.

PACE EH is designed to help communities conduct and act on an assessment of environmental health status in their community. In an effort to improve people’s health, public health departments are focusing on environmental issues that can be changed. By hosting neighborhood clean-up events PACE EH helps to improve environmental problems found in neighborhoods, work places and homes and make them safer.
