CHOICES More Than Just Healthcare For The Working Uninsured
Mission Statement
Helping Alachua County residents adopt healthier lifestyles by providing health education and risk reduction programs.
Cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, and illnesses related to smoking are the leading causes of mortality among Alachua County's citizens. These diseases, and the risk factors associated with them - including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity - affect our lives in significant ways. Unfortunately, the prevalence of these illnesses has increased at an alarming rate in the past few years. The health issues are affecting our children and youth at higher rates than ever before, putting them at risk for even more serious problems in early to mid adulthood.
The good news? These diseases can be minimized or prevented through sensible lifestyle changes! A community-wide focus on improved nutrition and weight control, increased physical activity, and tobacco avoidance can reverse these disturbing trends.
