Disease Control
The Alachua County Disease Control Unit groups together staff that conduct surveillance and investigations
for Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and Epidemiology. It also houses regional programs
in Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Disease for a 16 county area. Human surveillance of diseases and conditions
is required in order to meet the mission of public health: to focus attention on identifying, assessing, and
controlling the presence and speed of communicable diseases. There are over 90 diseases and conditions listed as
reportable. Any grouping, clustering, or outbreak is reported and acted upon immediately. Reports can be taken 24/7
by calling 352-334-7900.
