ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME (AIDS)
Health Education and Risk Reduction
Program
This free program provides information on
sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS. It is a
graphic presentation that shows signs and symptoms of a variety of diseases.
Other discussion topics include counseling and testing procedures, as well as
safer sex practices. Recommended for teenagers, parents and single groups.
Also recommended for organizations that have a genuine interest in the HIV/AIDS
dilemma. Please call 321.726.2901 for more information.
Counseling and Testing
The Brevard County Health Department provides counseling and testing on an Anonymous or Confidential basis.
Anonymous - no names are used so patients are provided anonymity. The patient is instructed to return to the clinic in two weeks for results and post-testing counseling. To make an appointment call (321)690-6486.
Confidential - counseling and testing is provided in our STD (sexually transmitted disease), Family planning, and Maternity clinics, with each patient signing a written consent form. Call (321) 637-7300 for an appointment.
Positive HIV Contact Tracing
The Brevard County Health Department may obtain contacts (sexual or needle sharing partners) from patients.
HIV and AIDS Surveillance
The law requires that HIV+ and full blown AIDS syndrome be reported to the Brevard County Health Department. Upon receiving the reports each case is investigated and reported to the State Health Office in Tallahassee.
Housing Opportunities for Persons with
AIDS (HOPWA)
The program assists with utilities and shelter expenses in emergency situations. Limited funding available.
AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)
These programs can provide specific HIV related medications for patients who qualify medically as well as financially, and who have no other insurance or
Medicaid coverage.
AIDS Patient Care Network and Ryan White Program
These programs are designed to assist patients with out-patient medical expenses. Should patients have no other resources, these funds may be utilized. All services must have prior approval.
Project AIDS Care (Waiver 0194)
Project AIDS Care is a Medicaid waiver program. It permits additional payment for a unique set of home and community based services. The goal of Project AIDS Care is to provide increased quality while lessening dependence on institutional care. A home-care basis allows care to be delivered with greater client participation in a course of treatments, in a less costly, more "user friendly" setting.
