The Charlotte
County Health Department and the Florida Department of Health’s
Office of Women’s Health are working everyday to increase the
awareness of women’s health issues. Our mission is to ensure
that all women and girls are healthier and have a better sense
of well-being. We want to reduce premature deaths due to
chronic and infectious diseases, by making sure that our
residents are aware of the issues surrounding their lives as
Women. We try to have the information and resources they need
to live a healthy lifestyle.
| Primary Care
The
primary
care program provides coordinated, comprehensive, health care
for acute and chronic diseases. Included are diagnosis,
treatment, patient education regarding specific illnesses and
their prevention, as well as good health maintenance practices.
Examples of these services include: Physical examinations,
medical management of hypertension, diabetes, heart and lung
ailments, infectious diseases and other health problems not
requiring a specialist or hospitalization. Primary care services are available by appointment.

| Women's Health / GYN
Clinic
Women's Health provides family planning, cancer and
sexually transmitted disease
screenings, as well as treatment for uncomplicated gynecologic problems
through our Primary Care clinic at all three clinic
locations. Gynecologists are

counseling and family planning support. We offer a variety

planning, male and female condoms, diaphragm, vaginal rings and
film, birth control pills, intra-uterine devices (IUD) and Depo
Provera injection. Emergency contraception is also available. We
participate in the Title X program for female and
male sterilization. This is an income-based,
federally-funded program. Confidential pregnancy testing

locations.

By now, you have probably gotten your period, and
realized that a lot is going on with your body. Now
would be the time to take a more in depth look at your
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM. While you have become more
confident, and realized that all girls go through these
changes, you will need to be sure to practice good
HYGIENE. Practicing good hygiene and feeling
confident about your new body are great tools that boost
your
SELF-ESTEEM. As you get older, you will also realize
that you have different feelings about the opposite sex.
You may start thinking about dating and having a steady
boyfriend. While these are all natural thoughts and
feelings, you should get the
FACTS before you go any further.
