Corrosion has eaten away part of the cover access area, this would allow sewage to flow to the ground. Corrosion has eaten through the tank wall, allowing sewage to reach soil and ground water.
Corrosion eating away at the tank around the outlet. Corrosion around the outlet allows for sewage to leak to the ground.

After experiencing septic failure, this homeowner decided to run a pipe from his drainfield directly to the canal behind his house. Failing septic tank allows sewage and even chunks of toilet paper to rise to the ground surface.
